This IRISCC Deliverable D5.1 presents the results of Task 5.1, which prepares four IRISCC Service Design Labs (SDLs) for implementation as pilot Knowledge Services. It translates the stakeholder driven concepts developed in WP2 into service-specific implementation pathways by defining technical foundations, data and modelling requirements, workflows, responsibilities, access conditions and remaining development needs. The SDLs address complementary spatial and thematic dimensions of climate-risk assessment. SDLs #1 and #2 apply participatory approaches to regional land-use planning and climate resilience.
SDL #1 builds on the SECLAND modelling framework, while SDL #2 integrates scientific evidence, stakeholder knowledge and strategic planning. SDL #3 develops three European-scale service concepts based on Field Observatory, ICOS CROP and SoilSense resources. SDL #4 combines socio-economic datasets with climate information from the Copernicus Climate Change Service and earthKit to support reproducible hazard–exposure–vulnerability assessments. The readiness assessment confirms that all four SDLs have sufficiently developed scientific or technical foundations to proceed to implementation under Task 5.2. Remaining requirements include the consolidation of operational workflows, clarification of responsibilities and governance, validation of inputs and outputs, specification of access routes, and preparation of documentation, training and technical support. Addressing these requirements will enable pilot implementation and user validation and will provide the basis for subsequent assessment of technical maturity, interoperability and sustainability. These steps will determine the suitability of the resulting Knowledge Services for inclusion in the IRISCC Catalogue of Services.
