Workshop

Co-Designing Future Services in Carbon Farming

📅 Thursday, 26 June – 🕚 11:00 AM 📍 OPUS 3, Yliopistonkatu 55, Tampere

Please note: This workshop is open only to participants of the eLTER Science Conference.

Join us for an interactive workshop that brings together researchers, policymakers, and private sector stakeholders to co-design future services and practices in carbon farming. Organised by BSAG (Baltic Sea Action Group) and ICOS ERIC (Integrated Carbon Observation System), this session builds on lessons from the Carbon Action pilot in Finland and aims to shape the future of climate-smart agriculture through improved collaboration and data-driven practices.

Workshop Goals

We’ll explore how long-term environmental observations can better support the Carbon Farming Certification Framework (CRCF) and how research infrastructures (RIs) can collaborate more effectively with the private sector. Together, we’ll address:

  • How to improve and adapt observations to meet CRCF needs.

  • Where gaps in data or coordination exist.

  • How to better connect science with real-world application and policy.

What Participants Will Gain

  • Insights into policy-research alignment in the context of carbon farming.

  • A map of existing research and indicators useful for CRCF, including biodiversity co-benefits.

  • Strategies for making research and data more accessible to policymakers and practitioners.

  • Opportunities to network across sectors working on climate-smart agriculture.

This workshop is designed for researchers, policy experts, and private sector actors already attending the eLTER Conference and interested in the future of climate-related land use and certification.
