The EU-funded IRISCC project has opened its Third Open Call for Transnational Access to state-of-the-art research infrastructures, offering researchers worldwide the opportunity to advance solutions to climate change risks. The call is open until 26 April 2026.
Building on the success of previous calls, IRISCC has engaged a growing international research community. The second call received 55 eligible proposals from more than 140 researchers across 31 countries, spanning universities, public research institutions, and SMEs. Submissions reflect the increasing need for interdisciplinary approaches to tackle complex climate-change challenges, integrating hazards, exposure, and vulnerability.
"Our previous calls demonstrated the strong global interest in accessing integrated research infrastructures to tackle climate risks," said Janne Rinne, IRISCC Project Coordinator. "For this third call, we encourage researchers to design projects that adopt multidisciplinary approaches, involve multiple research infrastructures, and integrate key aspects of climate risk such as hazards, exposure, and vulnerability."
IRISCC welcomes especially the proposals that integrate:
- Multi-RI collaboration: Projects are encouraged to involve multiple research infrastructures.
- Integrated climate-risk approach: Proposals are supported in combining hazards, exposure, and vulnerability assessments.
- Flexible access modes: Physical, hybrid, and remote-only access options are available.
- Virtual tools: Projects can integrate virtual access services, including data analysis, modeling, and digital platforms.
Researchers and innovators interested in applying can submit proposals until 26 April 2026. Selected projects will undergo feasibility checks and rigorous peer review, with access to IRISCC facilities starting soon after approval.
